Sew & Tell: freshening the patio for spring

It’s definitely spring in my neck of the woods. The weather went from gloomy to fresh and sunny recently. Although I was ready for the change in seasons, my patio wasn’t. The cushions and pillows on my patio furniture have had it. They were old, faded and dingy. I would show you a picture but honestly, they were so bad it’s horrifying.

Thank goodness Wholeport asked me to try out some of their products. They have loads of fun things that I want to play with – baking supplies, beads, craft goodies and more. But I was drawn to their fabric section and the timing was right since I’ve been wanting to freshen up the patio. I chose this fresh mod print to add a little color to my patio.

I made some simple pillow covers for my existing old pillows. That way, I can keep the pillow covers clean by taking them off and washing them.

It’s amazing how much better everything looks with these fresh pillows. I still have a few more to make and then I’m going to tackle phase 2 of the patio makeover. The chair cushions and the chaise lounge cushion – they’re even worse than the pillows were. Some have started to fray and rip. My plan is to cover those in drop cloth fabric which I think will look great with my new pillows. I can’t wait to start enjoying the backyard again. Especially since all the plants and flowers are starting to bloom.
Here’s what’s going on in my garden.

Wholeport Pillows & Spring Collage 1The lemon tree is starting to produce tiny little lemons and I just planted some strawberries and tomatoes.

Wholeport Pillows & Spring-001My flowers are blooming too – lavender, geraniums & forget-me-nots. And the bird bath is waiting for some baby birds to have a dip. I still need to plant more spring flowers but the ones that are blooming are making me happy.

This is one of my favorite spots. The very back corner of our patio. This bench sits under a shade tree and it’s a nice cool spot for relaxing. The bench is getting really weathered. Do you think I should paint it or put some sort of finish on it?

One last shot of a little succulent that’s on my patio table. It has the prettiest little flowers. I hope spring is happening in your neck-of-woods.

  5. Hey, those new pillow covers look great! They definitely bring a lot more life to your patio. It's amazing what a difference just a little pop of color can make. Your plants and flowers look beautiful too. I'm sure you want to maintain the beauty of your patio for as long as possible. Keeping it clean is one way to ensure that. Earthly debris can be quite a mess if allowed to accumulate, so it would be good to clean the patio on a regular basis.
