Even though we barely waved goodbye to summer, you know what happens once we hit September… our lives get even busier and the holidays are here before we even know it. This year, I’m planning ahead. I want to give gifts of beautiful paper white narcissus and red amaryllis. I am also envisioning a beautiful blooming centerpiece.
We always think of bulbs as a spring flower but you can cheat nature by forcing the bulbs. All you have to do is have them hibernate a little earlier and then depending on when you wake them up you’ll have fall and winter blooms.
Parrot tulips are perfect for the holidays and if you plant tulips in September, you should have blooms around the holidays. Tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, and daffodils can take from 10-20 weeks from planting to blooming. Paper white narcissus takes only 6-8 weeks.
Whether it’s forcing bulbs, growing fall edibles or adding fall color to your garden, you can find all the information on the Find beauty in the Fall site. Based on your region, you can select your Fall gardening project. Whether you want to force holiday bulbs, plant fall or winter edibles or add color, you can find all the information on Miracle-Gro.
To get my bulbs going, I’ll use Miracle-Gro® Potting Mix. It’s a lightweight potting soil – perfect for my project.
I can't wait to get started on my bulbs and then create pretty gifts like these.
